Hi, I’m Rachel, the creator behind Make it Spicy!
About The Blog
I’ve always loved experimenting in the kitchen, pushing myself to create exciting new recipes from simple ingredients. Eventually, I realized it was time to share my creations with the world!
As the name suggests, I’m a huge fan of spicy food, and I’ve infused that passion into my recipes. I’ve sort of “challenged” myself to do this by finding a way to infuse spice into almost every recipe I create — even desserts! But don’t worry — if heat isn’t your thing, each recipe includes an optional “Make it Spicy” section, so you can customize the spice level to your taste.
Most of my recipes are portioned for two — perfect for my husband and me right now. If you’re cooking for family or friends, feel free to double or triple the ingredients to suit your table!

My goal is to share the delicious recipes that I’ve been creating for years with all of you. Bonus points if you love spicy food just like me!
About The Creator
A little about my journey: I graduated from Michigan State University in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in advertising management, an additional major in psychology, and a minor in entrepreneurship & innovation. During college, my love for cooking really took off — thanks to HelloFresh, which sparked my curiosity to explore flavors and develop my own unique recipes.
I joined Spoon University in college, which is an online platform for students at different colleges to post their own articles relating to food. You can find some of my articles that I wrote on Spoon University here.
In 2021, I moved to Utah with my boyfriend (who is now my husband), and I decided to fully immerse myself in the culinary world. I enrolled in Salt Lake Culinary Education’s accelerated program (SLICE), where I became an ACF-Certified Chef in just three months. That experience brought me here — sharing my passion for bold, flavorful cooking with all of you.
What began as preparing intricate dinners for my family soon evolved into catering lunches for my co-workers during office meetings. Along the way, I had the exciting opportunity to create a three-course dinner for a bachelorette party (check out the hors d’oeuvres below!). After taking a brief pause to focus on planning my wedding in December 2024, I’m thrilled to be back—and more inspired than ever. I’ve realized that my true dream is to create and share my recipe creations online. Where this journey leads is still unfolding, but for now, my heart — and my cooking — lives right here on this site.
So that’s a bit about my cooking journey. But there’s one more important thing I want to share. We all have different taste buds, so I always encourage you to adjust my recipes to suit your preferences. To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of strict measurements — unless we’re baking, of course — because cooking is really all about taste! What I find perfectly salty might be too much (or not enough) for you. My best advice? Have fun with it. Experiment, trust your palate, and don’t be afraid to make the recipes your own.
With that being said, I’m so excited that you found your way to my website, and I hope you love my recipes as much as I love creating them. Welcome to Make it Spicy!
